On the night of May 1, “Dignity Health Sports Park” in Carson, California, will host the fight between Andy “The Destroyer” Ruiz and Chris “The Nightmare” Arreola.
It’s hard to imagine that the 31-year-old American boxer of Mexican descent has been in professional boxing for 12 years already. He has stepped into the ring 35 times, winning 33 bouts and losing 2.
The Destroyer is one of few boxers who were able to knock out Anthony Joshua and snatch his titles. Although not for a very long time (only six months) Andy was a unified heavyweight champion, holding 4 titles (WBA Super, IBF, WBO, and IBO). Elated by that triumph, Ruiz didn’t train diligently for a rematch, which took place half a year later. As a result, he lost via unanimous decision after 12 rounds. That fight against Joshua was the latest one for Ruiz so far.
As for the upcoming battle, The Destroyer will have an age advantage, as he is 9 years younger than Arreola. Besides, beating Joshua and holding 4 titles should give some confidence, right?

Arreola is 40 years old. However, he doesn’t plan to retire any time soon. During the 17 years of his professional career, Chris won 38 out of 47 fights. His knockout percentage looks very impressive – 86%, meaning that his striking power is enormous. Among his opponents there were such legends as Vitali Klitschko, Tomasz Adamek, and Deontay Wilder. However, in those fights Arreola remained without championship belts.
In his most recent fight in August 2019, The Nightmare faced Adam Kownacki and lost via majority decision.
Arreola’s advantages against Ruiz will be his reach (5 cm longer) and height (3 cm taller). Besides, his experience may turn out to be important too.

Bookies see Ruiz as a potential winner of the clash. The odds on his victory are 1.016. Meanwhile, Arreola’s triumph seems very unlikely, given the odds of 15.
