December 3, Milan will host Celtic for the Group H fixture. Will the Scottish club be able to surprise us? Or will they continue their unlucky campaign? We’ll find out on Thursday.
In the current season the Rossoneri demonstrate excellent form and results. Milan are at the top of the Serie A standings and are not planning to yield to anyone. We don’t know if this success is related to Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s return to the club, but the fact is Milan are enjoying a brilliant season.
As for the Europa League, after an away win over Celtic (1-3) and a home win over Sparta (3-0), Stefano Pioli’s men suffered a 0-3 home defeat from Lille. However, the rematch with the French club ended in a draw (1-1).
Currently Milan sit in the second place in Group H, only one point behind the group leaders Lille. Nevertheless, there is no time to rest, as Sparta Prague are breathing down the neck. Only 2 points separate the 2nd and 3rd places. So, who will advance further?
The Rossoneri have two matches ahead, which they need to win in order to get to Europa League playoffs.
The Hoops, on the other hand, are having a dismal season. In the second qualifying round of the Champions League, Celtic were defeated by Hungarian Ferencvaros and were out of the tournament.
In the Europa League, the Bhoys gained only 1 point after four games. Neil Lennon’s team lost to Milan (1-3) and drew a match with Lille (2-2). Later, Celtic were thrashed by Sparta twice – at home (1-4) and on a visit (4-1).
We’d like to believe that the Hoops will still be able to give a fight to the Italian squad on December 3.
Looking at the stats, Celtic’s victory in the upcoming match seems very unreal. The odds on Celtic are 7.7.
A draw is unlikely as well, given the odds of 5.35.
Considering Milan’s excellent results, bookies certainly give favour to the Italian troops. The odds on Milan are 1.38.
So, who will get these 3 points? For Celtic, it is a matter of reputation, while for Milan, the victory will solidify their position in the group and increase their chances to progress to the next stage.
