On September 8, the finalists of the 2018 World Cup will meet again at the Stade de France for the match of the second round of the Nations League. Will the visitors exact revenge for the defeat in 2018?
The France national football team has been playing brilliantly for the last few years. Since July 8, 2012, Didier Deschamps has been experimenting with the squad, selecting players in order to form a competitive team. Already at the 2014 World Cup, France reached quarterfinals, having overcome the crisis of 2008-2012.
At their home Euro in 2016, Deschamps’ squad was stopped just one step from the title. Then, France besieged the goal of Portugal but could not break the opponents’ defence and missed the victory.
Finally in 2018, Les Bleus won the World Cup, which took place in Russia.
Currently the French players are on the top of their form. Such names as Giroud, Griezmann, Mbappe inspire fear in the opponents’ hearts.
In one of our previous articles we have already mentioned the problems of the Croatia national football team and the head coach, Zlatko Dalic. We also discussed the team’s readiness for the tournament.
In short, the Blazers can hope that the French team will somehow lack game practice, as their last match took place in November last year. Croatia is considered to be the underdog in the upcoming match. In the absence of Modric and Rakitic, they can rely on the skills of some individual players, like Pasalic, Perisic or Rebic.
Statistics are not in favour of Croatia. The teams met head-to-head 6 times. 4 games were won by France, 2 games ended in a draw. Croatia never triumphed.
What to bet on?
Bookmakers give Croatia the odds of 4.6.
Draw seems more real (3.7).
To our mind, however, it may be too early to write off Croatia. The team is good and is famous for fast and tall players. And let’s keep in mind that Croatia reached the World Cup final two years ago.
On the other hand, considering the top level of the Deschamps’ men, Croatia are not allowed to make any mistakes.
