UEFA Nations League. Netherlands vs. Italy

The Netherlands and Italy will meet in Amsterdam on September 7 for a game of the 2nd round of the Nations League tournament. The Dutch team will be trying to move onto 6 points in Group A1, while the Azzurri will be looking to disappoint the Flying Dutchmen.

Netherlands

Currently the Dutch team is training without the head coach. On August 19, 2020, Ronald Koeman resigned from the team to coach FC Barcelona. The last game of the national team under his stewardship took place on November 19, 2019, when the Netherlands defeated Estonia (5-0) and qualified for the Euro 2020.

On September 7, the team will be led by Koeman’s former assistant Dwight Lodeweges, who is temporarily performing coaching duties. He hasn’t had any official games as the head coach yet. According to the list of the selected players, the squad is ready to give a fight. So, we are expecting an interesting game.

Italy

The Italian team had to deal with the same difficulties as Spain. Star players left but the replacement never came. Since 2010, things have been getting worse and worse. Italy’s last triumph was the second place at the 2012 Euro tournament and the Champions’ title at the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The management couldn’t find quality players. 2 years ago Roberto Mancini was announced as the new manager. Thanks to his smart tactic and choice of performers, the year of 2019 started with victories in four qualifying matches for the 2020 Euro. Italy qualified for the European championship, which was postponed by one year till 2021.

In their last official game, the Italians destroyed Armenia (9-1). We seriously expect to see success of the renewed Italian team under the leadership of Mancini.

What to bet on?

According to the official statistics, these national teams have had 25 head-to-head meetings since 1920. The Italians celebrated victory 11 times, while the Dutch won only 3 times. 11 other games ended in a draw. So, obviously stats are not in favour of the Netherlands. On September 7, the Flying Dutchmen will have a chance to adjust the statistics a little bit.

The odds for a draw result are 3.4.

Considering the problems inside the Italian team, the odds for Italy’s victory are 3.32.

The Netherlands are the favourites of the upcoming match, given the odds of 2.155.

The difference between the odds is not big. Both teams are capable of causing problems, and the battle in Amsterdam is going to be very interesting. That’s why we love football.

Good luck to the opponents, big wins to our readers!
