Dark clouds are gathering over Manchester

This article is about a well-known club of the English Premier League, Manchester City. What brought the legendary club to court? Let’s figure it out together!

Manchester City is having the most defining week in the history of the club. The fact is that on June 8 at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) Manchester City’s appeal against UEFA’s two-year ban from European competition began.

Just a quick reminder that this punishment was appointed in view of serious breaches of UEFA financial fair play rules. Adjudicatory Chamber of the Club Financial Control Body claimed that it found City had broken the rules by “overstating its sponsorship revenue in its accounts and in the break-even information submitted to UEFA between 2012 and 2016. The charge was announced in February this year. That day the club was fined $30mln.

Nevertheless, the representatives of Man City said that they believed in an “impartial judgment” and in their lawyers. The hearing is listed for three days and is not open to the public. However, the final verdict may be announced only at the end of summer. If Man City lawyers will not be able to prove their innocence, the club will be banned from all European competitions and will suffer enormous financial losses. Perhaps, several key players will leave the club.

The outcome of this appeal means a lot for European football! Thus, for example, Javier Tebas, the president of La Liga and an outspoken critic of Manchester City and Paris St. Germain, praised UEFA for “finally taking decisive action”. He emphasized that “punishing financial doping is essential for the future of football”. Otherwise, it will discredit European football in general.

We hope that the final decision will be just. We also hope that everything will be taken into consideration and we won’t lose the club.

Meanwhile, we can enjoy the upcoming match, where in the 28th round of the English Premier League Manchester City will host Arsenal. Currently City occupy the 2nd place in the standings, trailing only to Liverpool.

Let’s support City by wagering a little more on their victory for great odds of 1.33.

Go City!
