The son of a businessman and former Deputy in the Bashkortostan state parliament, Daniil Kvyat feel quite comfortable as a member of Alpha Tauri team. Nevertheless, bookmakers are taking bets that the Russian driver will leave the team. So, let’s get to know him a little better.
At the age of 6, Daniil moved with his parents from Ufa to Moscow. In the capital or Russia he first raced go-karts. His parents supported his fascination and commitment demonstrated by great results. And when Daniil was 12, his family moved to Rome. In 2010, Kvyat was confirmed for the main Formula BMW team. During that year he participated in more than 30 races. In 2014, Daniil, aged 19, finished 9th in Australia.
The year of 2015 was even richer in victories and achievements. Kvyat raced for Red Bull team, replacing four-time World Champion Sebastian Vettel, who departed to Ferrari. In Hungary Daniil took his first podium with a second-place finish.
The following year, however, turned out to be difficult for Kvyat. Sometimes, he didn’t even get to finish at all. And in the fall of 2017 Kvyat was released out of the Red Bull driver development programme.
On the 29th of September 2018, Daniil was confirmed as a Toro Rosso driver, replacing the Red Bull-bound Pierre Gasly. There, Kvyat put in strong performances, achieving 6 points finishes from 12 races. Notwithstanding, Franz Tost, current team principal of the Scuderia Toro Rosso Formula One team, mentioned the other day that there were going to be changes in the team’s driver line-up during the next couple of years. So, if a new driver appears, he may take the place of Kvyat or Gasly, who was demoted back to Toro Rosso.
Will Kvyat leave Toro Rosso? Most likely, things will remain unchanged and Daniil will continue to race for the team. Perhaps, all this fuss was just to get attention. Besides, in November 2019, there was a confirmation that Kvyat and Gasly will remain in the main line-up for the 2020 season.
